Strange Bumps and A Break for Baseball: Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next?

Strange Bumps and A Break for Baseball November 20, 2020 Dylan Campbell Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next? My job has gone very well and I like my coworkers a lot.    It has taught me a lot of new skills and allowed me to see myself from  a different point of view.    On the other side, it is very nice to be making some money during this time.    Some people are out of  work due to COVID and I count myself very lucky. As of recently, there has a spike of COVID cases in the Cedar Rapids area leading Mount Mercy to make an important  decision.    The school decided to suspend team activities for all sports that were not in season.    This meant baseball, softball,  bowling, cheer, and cross country would be suspended until November 30.    Not meeting as a team has been very different and  I really do miss seeing my teammates. Although I haven’t been able to see my team, I have been able to work out when I c...

New Job and The Election: Fall Semester 2020

New Job and The Presidential Election November 6, 2020 Dylan Campbell Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next? The end of October and beginning has been a very interesting time for not just me but the country as a whole.     There has been  a lot to get used to during this time.     I normally have baseball practice every day, but since we have been on a break I feel like  I’ve been in a funk. I started a new job at the MAC Xtreme, a gym in Cedar Rapids.     I work at the customer service desk assisting customers with  issues they come across.     I have recently finished my two weeks of training and will have my first alone shift this coming  Tuesday.     I have had fun learning the aspects of the job and I think I will have a great time working with my new team.     It will  also be very nice to have some extra money.     This gym has multiple locations in Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Fairfax. ...

COVID-19 and Hawkeye Football: Fall Semester 2020

COVID-19 and Hawkeye Football October 23, 2020   Dylan Campbell Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next? COVID-19 hit the Mount Mercy Baseball team when a couple of players felt sick and came back positive with the virus.    This has brought our practice and weightlifting as a team to a halt.    The teams was tested and many of us came back negative.    This is a weird time for me because I’m so used to playing baseball around this time.    This is the first time someone with a confirmed case has affected my life in a way.    We lost our season last year to make sure the virus didn’t spread, but this is a different feeling.   The COVID-19 test I had to take with the nasal test.    The test I had taken prior was a saliva test, so the nasal test was a big change.    It didn’t help much that the person before complained of how awful the test was.    I was very nervous as I sat down in the chair and the...

Midterms, Baseball and Fires: Fall Semester 2020

Midterms, Baseball, and Fires October 9, 2020 Dylan Campbell Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next? Well, now that I’m five into school I have begun to feel somewhat normal in this crazy year. I like all of my classes and have enjoyed the work I’ve done in them. I am coming up on my Midterm exams and finally hitting that halfway point if the semester.   All of my classes are teaching me very interesting topics. I’m learning new facts about music, how to properly write for public relations, and how to manage strategically. Each lecture makes me feel ready to take on workplace tasks and show my bosses what I am capable of. I will need to start studying day and night for my up and coming midterms. Aside from school, baseball has been on a full tear. We’ve been practicing every day and I can fell the team’s chemistry and skill improve. Personally, I have been very happy with the results I’ve seen within myself. Of course, there are still areas I would like to improve and I hope to do ...

First Post: Fall Semester 2020

First Blog Post September 11, 2020 Dylan Campbell   Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next? This year has been eventful to say the less. It started off fun with the beginning of my senior year of baseball. Before our first game I took a look at my team and said, “Wow, we have a pretty good shot this year.” We started off slow, losing our first couple of games, but then we began to pick it up. Once we had games on our home field, the Mount Mercy Mustangs really hit their stride. March 13, the day we heard that our season may come to an end. I can remember being so anxious that I felt sick to my stomach. I knew it wouldn’t be the end of the world but just the feeling of our season-ending like that with so little to show was absolutely heartbreaking. I was set to pitch the first game of the Friday doubleheader against the team from Canton, Missouri. Culver Stockton College. I was very determined to go out with a bang and leave it all on the field. I had my music blasting and paid litt...
