Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next?
COVID-19 hit the Mount Mercy Baseball team when a couple of players felt sick and came back positive with the virus. This has brought our practice and weightlifting as a team to a halt. The teams was tested and many of us came back negative. This is a weird time for me because I’m so used to playing baseball around this time. This is the first time someone with a confirmed case has affected my life in a way. We lost our season last year to make sure the virus didn’t spread, but this is a different feeling.
The COVID-19 test I had to take with the nasal test. The test I had taken prior was a saliva test, so the nasal test was a big change. It didn’t help much that the person before complained of how awful the test was. I was very nervous as I sat down in the chair and the nurse told me to pull my mask down. My takeaway from the test is that it was uncomfortable for 20 seconds or so, but other than that it was very bearable. I got my results and have come back negative; I must continue my part in keeping others safe.
In other news, The University of Iowa’s football team begins to play this weekend at Purdue University in West Lafayette,
Indiana. Big Ten football is getting a late start compared to other conferences since the COVID-19 regulations were much
stricter in the Big Ten. For every Hawkeye away game, Tawny and I go out to her parents’ house to watch the game. Her
parents have renovated an old chicken coop with five TVs and a sound system to create the perfect place to watch the
game. Tawny’s mom always makes great food that fills our stomachs and makes us very thankful. The only thing that makes it
better is when the Hawkeyes win. GO HAWKS!
