Fall Semester 2020: What’s Next?

This year has been eventful to say the less. It started off fun with the beginning of my senior year of baseball. Before our first game I took a look at my team and said, “Wow, we have a pretty good shot this year.” We started off slow, losing our first couple of games, but then we began to pick it up. Once we had games on our home field, the Mount Mercy Mustangs really hit their stride.

March 13, the day we heard that our season may come to an end. I can remember being so anxious that I felt sick to my stomach. I knew it wouldn’t be the end of the world but just the feeling of our season-ending like that with so little to show was absolutely heartbreaking. I was set to pitch the first game of the Friday doubleheader against the team from Canton, Missouri. Culver Stockton College. I was very determined to go out with a bang and leave it all on the field. I had my music blasting and paid little to no attention to anyone around me. Then my coach called us all over to give us an update. To summarize what he said, “Guys, we could hear any minute that our season is over. That being said we need to play each game like it is our last.” He then pointed at all the seniors. “These are the guys you need to play for, this is their last shot.” This speech got to us all and we were ready to play.

The next day we met as a team as it snowed and our coach had informed us that our season was over. I was upset for only a short while because I had finished the way I wanted to. I was content with my performance. This followed with the classes being moved to online and a lot of time spent at home. Once school ended, my girlfriend and I packed up and drove to California to visit my family. It was a wonderful trip and I was happy Tawny could meet my family.

Now back in Iowa, the school has begun and I’m looking forward to a fun year of school, baseball, and living with Tawny. The next post will be about my Derecho experience.
